Get Drunk Without Guilt

Written by Olatunji Rockdweller

“Sometimes when you’re drunk you can see better.”

–Damien Hirst

Lions roaring like thunder,

Terror descend like morning dew.

Stress tears my soul asunder,

I’m unsettled like a simmering stew

“When would all these end”. My broken heart pounders.

And I hear a voice behind me saying;

worry less and drink more – take litres in just a gulp.

Get squiffed and slay the Lions with your bare hands.

Pounce on the beasts like teddy bears.

Man, drink without guilt! ”

This boat is half-filled with water,

The tempestuous storm infest me with terror.

My heart melts within me like block of butter,

The accuser gladly amplified my errors.

Choice-less like a sacrifice on the altar

And I hear a voice from within saying;

Worry less and drink more – consume litres in just one gulp

Stretch forth your hand and grasp the jar,

Get drunk and step out of this doomed boat in style,

‘Slung down’ and tread on this troubled water with poise,

Drink more and ride on this storm like Jesus.

The finish line seems unreachable even in a million years,

I dawdle at snail speed on the path of progress.

“You are prolly on the wrong track.” The devil sneered.

The boss’s wife suddenly turn ‘anointed’ temptress,

I feel alone because help is far too from near.

I can hear the voice saying to me;

Worry less and drink more – consume litres in just one gulp

Drink to stupor until your garment is drenched,

Swig until your eyes are dimmed,

Drink, burst-out in joy and exceed the chariots,

Get drunk, outrun the cheetah and out-fly the peregrine falcon.

Honestly, I can’t explain how I get into this den,

The famished lions gazed at me like a piece of meat.

Suddenly, I understood the mischief of men.

I feel too weak to breath and I’m tempted to quit,

I look Helpless like a settled sheep in the pen.

I can hear the voice again, saying;

Worry less and drink more – take litres in just a gulp

Drink until your fears fade like flames,

Dope until you know, the shadows of death are mere SHADOWS,

Be still yet expose the LIONS within you,

Get intoxicated and roar louder than them all.

I will drink and poison this unbelief in my veins.

I will get doped and jabber some unknown languages .

I wanna get drunk and take the mountains without caution.

I would drink and choke this weed of doubt.

Let me drink that I may ascend the hill effortlessly.

Let me drink, let me sniff, let me get high.

Get Drunk without Guilt!

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled in the spirit “(Eph 5:18)

Please, kindly share if you are blessed by this piece.

  1. Worry less makes you healthy drink more kills you! *I know* it’s like relieving yourself and placing pills of banana for your fall, also not that if meat is what would make my brother stumble I will rather not take at all than make my brother defile his conscience.

    1. Mr Gwinose, I really appreciate your comment and I hope you would read the piece again after a while, I love you to see beyond the lyrics and get the message straight. I am not promoting alcoholism or doping. Never have and never will.
      Drink the right stuff and get drunk and never recover Sir!

    2. @Gwinose, The message is encoded. The writer unequivocally never thought or mention alcohol or even wine in the writeup… He concluded by …. Don’t get drunk with wine…. but be filled with the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost filled man is like a drunkard or ‘the wind’ as Jesus put it. You don’t understand his movement, You can’t tell where he is going or where he is coming from. Such a life style can never be understood by the devil. So when the writer says get drunk, the question would be ‘get drunk with what?’ but then the answer is there #the Holy Ghost#! How? speaking to yourself in psalms, in hymns and in spiritual songs… speaking in other tongues and energizing/edifying your spirit to make him dominate the flesh. Thats the surest path to victory in this chaotic and tempestuous world today.
      Thank you very much

  5. At first I thought alcohol then I understood the real meaning. Great piece! The imagery and verisimilitude stands out for me. The best way in my view to promote the kingdom is not the in your face approach but the subtle power of ‘harmless’ insinuation. Tunji this piece shows I am not alone in that thought.

  6. Nice post. I learn something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It will always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a little something from their store. I’d prefer to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll give you a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.
