The 7th day of May ceased to be an ordinary day in the history of football because Liverpool football club gave it a meaning. For those who never believed in miracles, they repented after seeing the proverbial David and Goliath battle right before their faces. Only two set of humans saw the magic coming; those who had seen the Lord face to face and bold-faced self-denying Liverpool supporters who found it easier to dance ‘zanku’ unclad on the street of Lagos than to embrace the fact that their team will bow to other gods.

For those of us who view  life from a wide lens, the victory was loaded with lessons and a short conversation with a friend Innocent Ken thereafter, compelled me to share  few of the many lessons I garnered from this 90 minutes encounter.

These lessons will come in series and and I hope they impact you greatly. One of them is listed below:

  1. Result Is King:

1st of May 2019, the Liverpool team were walloped by Barcelona in Camp Nou by 3 goals to nothing. It was a sad night for the red and their fans. They worked hard, but it was not just enough and like chaff, were blown away by the whirlwind of Camp Nou as the  entire soccer community watched in awe.  Everybody concluded it was over for Liverpool FC, no one gave them a chance. It has been seen that, dry bones do come alive but not these buried ones, we concluded.  We trolled them on social media and their fans could barely talk in public because of the colossal lost that seemed impossible to correct.

On 7th May, the gods said to us “anything is possible!”. Liverpool apparently, did the impossible and right before our eyes, the buried dry bones did not only come back to life, but they became mighty warriors and slew everyone standing in their way. Noteworthy, immediately the result changed, the crowd responded simultaneously and for a moment everybody became a die-hard fan of the Reds—at least temporarily.

I have lived a little long enough to know that people’s opinions are rarely constant. People respond to change in result just like they do with their style of dressing changes when there is a weather change. Someone once advised me not to dare writing because my writing skills have been terrible from childhood. Just two years later he said to me: “Little Cousin, I am so proud of you and I have always known that you got this in you.” He is just being human, and we all do that all the time. I once discouraged a friend from picking up a form for a beauty pageant because of her height and body shape but thank God she did not listen to me because she went and emerged as first runner-up (I still don’t know what she used on them).

We should never allow people’s opinion to be louder than what God has laid in our hearts to do and we should be careful not to be the reason people do not fulfil their destinies because of our toxic piece of unhealthy advice.

Humans are not wired to believe without seeing results first and that is the reason for the popular quote ‘seeing is believing.’ However, if you are blessed enough to have folks who see your results and celebrate you even before the manifestation, then honour and worship them because they are not ordinary humans, they are angels wrapped in earthen vessels. Right now, we have two sets of people in our lives – Those sent to you by God ; they spot your greatness and believe in you even when you couldn’t believe in yourself, they sang your praise and invested in you long before you stood before pharaoh or slew the tormenting Goliath(Trust me, like diamond ,they are rare. The second set of persons are everywhere, these are folks who won’t call you Son of God until they see you turn the water of your life to wine even in public. They won’t believe until they see signs and wonders. Don’t build your life around these result-mongers. They are your friends when you have  results, and if you do not have something to show, they nail you to the cross and ask why you cannot save yourself. Trust me, nobody understands this better than Lionel Andres Messi.

…To be continued.

Kindly drop your comment if this makes any sense to you(and even if it doesn’t…lol )

  2. Wow.
I never knew one could write an inspiring piece from a football game.
I really need to pay closer attention,*smile*
Yes, people will always give their opinions for reasons best known to them , it’s up to us to posture our hearts to know what to do with these opinions.
What I take away from here is the heart posture,if it’s firm on the word of God then nothing else actually matters. I strongly believe they already won in their hearts before that match.
That said, I wonder when Chelsea will inspire something like this.*laughs*

Thanks and God bless you Rockdweller

People are always a constant in our life. And they would always be there to give their critic as well as celebrate us. One thing that baffles me is this, why the same people who celebrate you can turn around suddenly to criticise you. But one thing I do is this, I accept the criticism in good faith, and make the best out of it. Just as I appreciate celebrations, I equally appreciate criticism, its a major driving force. A motivation to want to do even much more.

“We should never allow people’s opinion to be louder than what God has laid in our hearts to do and we should be careful not to be the reason peopale do not fulfil their destinies because of our toxic piece of unhealthy advice.”
People will raise their voice of criticism always, just know that only your result can stop them.
God bless therockdweller. You’re God sent to this generation sir.
