“Life is short; I wanna live it well
One life, one story to tell
Life is short; I wanna live it well
And you’re the one I’m living for
Awaken all my soul
Every breath that you take is a miracle
Life is short; I wanna live it well, yeah
I wanna sing with all my heart a lifelong song
Even if some notes come out right and some come out wrong
Cause I can’t take none of that through the door
Yeah, I’m living for more than just a funeral
I wanna burn brighter than the dawn”
–Switchfoot (Live it well)
Sometimes ago, I visited a zoo after a frenetic and Jejune week. The only animal I wanted to see was the strongest among beast that turneth not away from any. My heart leaped within me as I saw these deadly folks walked around the fortified wired fence. Then I heard a voice within me “You can’t afford to be like these encaged pride of Lions!” Immediately, I became cold and burdened even as I mediated on this words in my head.
The Lions in the cage are not kings of the jungle. In fact, they are slaves in cages. They move but resisted, they are breathing but dying at the same time. They were created to run after their prey, pounce on them and rent them apart instead of being fed daily in their ‘comfort zone’. These poor Lions are weak and unsuccessful because they are out of their natural habitat. They weren’t designed to be caged, they were sculptured to roar and dominate. Even though these Lions get their daily meals without running around unlike their folks in the jungle are never going to be successful. Never!
Sadly, many of us are like these Lions, we are trying too hard to be successful outside our natural habitat. No amount of prayers can make a fish thrive on the tree. No measure of fasting can make an eagle succeed in the ocean. It’s impossible to succeed outside our purpose and calling in life. Our purpose is our natural habitat. Every creature struggles for survival outside its original habitat – your purpose is the location for your provision and protection.
Every invention is motivated by a purpose and geared towards meeting a specific need so is every human being is created to accomplish something specific that no one else can accomplish. We are God’s big idea – the ideas that defeat the world. You are bundles of miracle designed to fix a particular problem and meet a specific needs. Nobody can do what you were born to do the way you do it. Everybody is unique in his own way, so there is no ground for jealousy.
Purpose is not what we choose, just like our fingerprints; it’s a gift that needs to be unwrapped. God planted it in our heart at birth and it’s the responsibility of every person to SEARCH IT OUT. Proverbs 25:2 (KJV): It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
Your purpose is your niche and that is the only sphere of life you can truly thrive and shine. You can’t be optimally useful to your generation until you understand your purpose in life. Nobody can truly be celebrated outside his natural habitat. You can’t even be original outside your niche. You need to stop trying to smell like others, locate your own flavour and fragrance!
It is a deeply dispressing fact that while we all have been given unique vision, too many of us bury our dreams in a lesser existence, making ourselves a graveyard of God’s precious treasure. Every hard work, money, time and resources spent outside your niche is a waste. Success is about touching lives. Success begins the very day we recognize our natural habitat – Your calling.
Sadly, there are many Lions trying hard to survive in the seas just to pay bills, many Eagles struggling to live on the ground just to earn a living.(you can NOT truly earn a living in a dead zone, You living is in your Purpose!)
Dr Myles Munroe once said “money is the most inferior reason to work; work for vision.” It’s not about how much you earn but what you are becoming. Every second spent outside your purpose wears you out physically, psychologically, emotionally even spiritually.
You were fearfully and wonderfully made by God, your life is a message to be heard, your life is a symphony with a targeted audience and they must not be disappointed. There is a music in your heart and your must let it out. Your life must count, your life must give meaning to others – generation yet to come must celebrate you. We have so many heavenly resources wasting out there because of fear, pressure, procrastination etc; many unreleased songs would die with the ‘irresponsible’ singer, many designs will never be seen, millions of unpublished books will be buried with their writers. Your purpose is not just about you, it’s about many lives even generation yet unborn. Imagine if Jesus had failed to fulfill his purpose, we would all be doomed by now, if Joseph had given excuses and dumped his dreams, millions would had died of hunger. Mark Zuckerberg had a choice but he chose to live (stay in his niche), can you imagine how many lives had been changed by Facebook? Bill Gates took responsibility and that is why we have Microsoft. I also thank God for people around my life who I am sure are living in their zone. They inspire me a lot.
Beloved, it’s more important to know why you were born than to know the fact that you were born. If you don’t know the reason for your existence, you will begin to experiment with your life, and that is dangerous. I dare you to take a bold step today and begin a journey to locating your natural habitat today. Nobody truly search without finding. It’s closer than you think and God is faithful to help you through this interesting adventure; he kept it there and he will show you. Be courageous enough to embrace the dreams that had chosen, do not bow to the external pressure, swim against the tides and face the giant. Do not get to the end of life only to discover, you never truly lived!
