A budding entrepreneur had a rare privilege to be a guest on a TV show . As the interview commenced, he became nervous and tensed, his jaw quivered and he left his seat for the restroom a few times… Yeah, on a live show! He lost every ounce of confidence in him. suddenly, what looked like an opportunity turned a regret . A colossal letdown it was for his entire team. Howbeit, this man turned one of the greatest public speaker of his time in less than two decades . In fact, Forbes named him : The Greatest Corporate CEO Presenter of All Time. Even on his sick bed, he wrote a world-class piece. His name is Steve Paul Jobs, the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc.
What is the secret behind the transformation? Self-investment.
Self-Discovery is knowing yourself but self-investment is building the discovered you. Like every other investment; it is not always convenient, however, it comes with zero risk.
In my own word, self-investment is consciously adding values to yourself especially in your area of strength until you attain a certain height of accomplishment (However, it is an endless journey of improvement). Self-investment leads to self-mastery and it is a habit.
Self-Discovery shows you the kind of problem you can solve or you were born to solve but self-investment equip you with the relevant skills and tools to effectively solve the problems. Always keep this in mind: KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
Most times, our strengths and talents are in their raw states . So, we need to invest time, energy and resources to refine these treasures . It is wickedness not to discover your strength and it is negligence not to invest in them.
Gold ore doesn’t attracts much values or attention. Steve Jobs had the stuff even on that hot seat but not refined enough (unpolished speaker). He was probably a good speaker at home and around his friends but not enough for public consumption.
We are like buildings but sadly many are still at the foundation level even at 40. Some at lintel yet they are grandmothers and some are yet to find a place to start from (building on paper or 3d formats ) I think that explains why we live in a dysfunctional society.
According to Daniel Levitin, 10,000 hours of practice (investment) is required to achieve a level of mastery associated with being a world-class. So, you must be specific, deliberate and consistent in building this edifice of yours.
Every wise (real) woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands (Proverbs 14:1).
You can not give what you do not have, only built minds can build a home, I believe the foolish woman is not wicked or insane enough to consciously bulldoze her house but she does that behind the closed door of her subconscious because her mind and life are dismantled. The quality of your mindset is the quality of your life.
“What goes into the mind comes out in the life.” –Unknown
I encourage you to consciously invest in yourself by constantly reading (the right materials), and deliberately exposing yourself to the right things and relationship.
It’s honourable to excel in what you do before you say ‘I do’.
